Deck painting and staining that lasts

Exterior wood takes a beating in the North Bay. Sun dries it out, rain and fog soak in, and unprotected boards turn gray, crack and splinter. A properly applied stain or sealer protects the wood and brings back its color.

We restore decks, fences, pergolas, railings, doors and other exterior wood throughout Sonoma, Marin, Napa and surrounding North Bay communities, from small porches to large timber-frame structures.

How our deck painting and staining works

Every project starts with a free, no-obligation estimate and ends with a clean site and a final walk through.

  1. Inspect the wood

We check the boards, railings and finish, and talk through stain colors and opacity with you.

  2. Clean and prep

We wash away dirt and mildew, then sand or strip old, failing finishes so the new coat can soak in.

  3. Stain or seal

We apply stain or sealer evenly, including ends, edges and railings, in the right weather conditions.

  4. Final check

We walk the finished deck or wood with you and clean up the site.

Common questions

How often should a deck be stained?

It depends on sun exposure, foot traffic and the product used. When the wood starts to look gray or water stops beading on the surface, it's time to refinish.

Should I stain or paint my deck?

Stain lets the wood grain show and is easier to maintain, while paint gives a solid color. We'll recommend the best option for your deck's condition during the estimate.

Do you stain fences, pergolas and wood doors too?

Yes. We refinish fences, pergolas, railings, wood doors, garage doors, beams and siding.

Do you power wash before staining?

Yes. Cleaning is part of our prep, and we also offer power washing on its own.

How long does deck painting take?

It depends on the size of the deck, the prep it needs and the weather, since the wood must be dry before any deck painting or staining begins. We'll give you a timeline with your free estimate.
